FEAST 04 -- grant winners

Congrats to Zach Pearl, who won the FEAST Project Grant (of $776), and Melissa Luk, who won the $300 FEAST student grant sponsored by XPACE.

Zach's project, WreckingBallTO, is "a website that will facilitate the free trade of supplies and resources between arts organizations in Toronto and the GTA. This would be a free service, both to join and to use, wherein the primary goal would be to provide an accessible and democratic means for local galleries, artist-run centres, theatres and arts administrators to connect and notify one another of their operational wants and needs. This is intended to encourage the Toronto arts community to foster stronger bonds and awareness amongst themselves, and also to initiate an alternative economic model for acquiring necessary exhibition and event supplies that circumvents the increasingly bureaucratic federal grant system."

Melissa's FEAST proposal, asserts that comics are the best of all possible worlds. "It is simultaneously art and literature, something that moves you with words and feeds your eyes. They can make you feel sad, happy, entertain, be insightful, visually charm and confuse, communicate and educate. I would like to propose to FEAST a publication of a 17" x 23" sized, double-sided newspaper sheet of comics from 12 Toronto artist making these exact comics today. This newspaper will be FREE to the public with a publication date in Spring 2012."
